Wind turbine manufacturer to lay off 200+ workers

CS Wind Offshore is laying off 220 employees at its Lindø shipyard in Funen due to delays and cancellations of several offshore wind turbine projects caused by political interference and unfavorable conditions for creating business models. Vice Chairman Knud Bjarne Hansen expressed regret for the impact this will have on the dedicated and highly competent colleagues. The South Korean company, which recently acquired the notable Danish company Bladt Industries in December 2023, will continue operations in Denmark, employing 1600 staff across various locations. Challenging market conditions recently resulted in Denmark’s largest offshore wind tender receiving no bids, and political decisions have halted the open-door policy for constructing wind farms in Danish coastal waters. Green Power Denmark’s Jan Hylleberg voices deep concern, pointing out discrepancies between dialogue and market action on wind energy. Despite setbacks, CS Wind Offshore remains committed to the business area but may relocate operations from the Odense Harbor factory.
