Today’s news / Odder seeks compensation for illegally felled trees
This is not the first time that the police have been involved in cases of illegal tree felling. Here is a felled tree in North Jutland, where the police were also involved in April 2024 to investigate who had felled the tree. (Archive photo). Photo: Henning Bagger/Ritzau Scanpix

Odder seeks compensation for illegally felled trees

Odder Municipality plans to claim compensation for 54 trees illegally felled on municipal land. Helle Bøhl-Møller, head of Technical and Environmental issues, compares the theft to someone emptying a town hall of designer chairs, stating it’s outright theft. The destruction has been reported to the police, and external experts have been engaged to assess the value of each tree to determine the compensation amount, considering factors like the trees’ age and size. Some of the felled trees, ranging from 25 centimeters to a meter in diameter, were removed from the scene. The police are currently investigating the case after being alerted to the removal of 31 trees along Houvej last week and an additional 23 trees between Ørting and Hundslund recently.
