Danish PM informs Greenland leader post Trump call

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen informed Greenland’s government leader about a phone call with upcoming U.S. President Donald Trump, discussing Greenland among other topics. Frederiksen ensured that the leader of Naalakkersuisut, Mute B. Egede, was the first person she spoke with after the call. Trump’s interest in Greenland, aiming to make it ‘magnificent again’, initiated the call from Denmark for clarification. Frederiksen emphasized Greenland’s future is up to its people, and the country wasn’t represented in the conversation. The 45-minute call also covered trade, economy, and strengthening security in the Arctic. The Danish Folketing is currently negotiating a new Arctic security agreement, with certain elements pending from the 2021 accord. Trump, who steps in as president on Monday, hasn’t ruled out using military or economic pressure to fulfill his wishes regarding Greenland.
