Sweden seizes ship after Baltic Sea cable cut
A ship has been seized by Sweden’s Säpo on suspicion of causing damage to a Baltic Sea cable, with the incident being investigated as severe sabotage. The damage was earlier confirmed by a cable operator and acknowledged by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. While details of the ship are undisclosed, it is known to be the Malta-registered ‘Vezhen’, located near Karlskrona. Swedish authorities are conducting thorough investigations, and the Swedish Coast Guard, alongside other defense and police forces, is involved in addressing the suspected sabotage. The emphasis on the security of underwater cables in the region has grown after multiple incidents, with the operator suggesting the damage is due to ‘external influence’.
