Review of Placements for Greenlandic Children Urged

The Children’s Council calls for the reopening of cases involving the placement of Greenlandic children if they included psychological tests not adapted for the parents. The chair of the council, Bente Boserup, recommends municipalities review cases to ensure the tests did not unfairly influence decisions about child placements, which could violate children’s rights to family life. Critique arose over these tests not reflecting Greenlandic culture and language. Consequently, the Danish and Greenlandic governments, Naalakkersuisut, reached an agreement, details of which will be announced later in the week. Previously, Copenhagen and Esbjerg municipalities discontinued the use of the tests following the advice of the Institute for Human Rights.
