Young woman convicted for praising Hamas attack

A woman was convicted by the Copenhagen City Court for publicly endorsing Hamas’ attacks in Israel on October 7th in a conversation with Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. During a demonstration near Christiansborg on November 9th, she expressed happiness over Hamas’ decision, which the court deemed an unlawful public expression of sympathy. The woman, aged 19, was sentenced to five months in prison, suspended, meaning she will not serve time. This marks the fifth case the court has handled regarding public approval of Hamas’ attacks, with previous sentences ranging from nine months of unconditional imprisonment to five months, suspended. The conviction coincides with a memorial demonstration of the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht, where the controversial exchange occurred.
