Denmark PM advocates for more military aid for Ukraine
EU nations have agreed to provide €50 billion in financial aid to Ukraine over the next four years, yet Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen asserts that providing arms and ammunition must now be prioritized. At a meeting, Frederiksen urged for increased military donations, stressing the immediate need on the battlefield. She and Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz had previously highlighted Ukraine’s needs and the obligation to fulfill commitments regarding ammunition delivery, in an open letter ahead of the EU summit. Despite a promise to supply Ukraine with one million artillery shells by March 2024, the EU is currently unable to meet this target, creating challenges for Ukrainian soldiers. Frederiksen remarked on the shortfall in EU commitments and emphasized Denmark’s fulfillment of its responsibilities, calling for other EU countries to step up their support.
