Mette Frederiksen on Assad’s fall: A tyrant gone

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen described the removal of Bashar al-Assad as the departure of a tyrant. She emphasized on protecting civilians and allowing Syria to determine its own future without oppressive regimes. World leaders, including Frederiksen, have commented on the situation as Syrian rebel forces entered Damascus on Sunday, leading to Assad’s flight. Assad and his family have been granted asylum in Moscow, confirmed by Russian diplomat Mikhail Uljanov. Celebrations erupted in European cities with Syrian communities. Assad, who had been president since 2000 after succeeding his father, saw his country in civil war since 2011, resulting in millions fleeing. Recently, rebel forces gained control in cities including Hama, Aleppo, and now Damascus.
