Biden expands aid for fire-hit California
U.S. President Joe Biden has approved more national support for California, which suffers from wildfires near Los Angeles. The changes in the state’s Disaster Declaration allow a higher ceiling for federal aid. Federal funds for debris removal and protective measures have been increased to cover 100% of the eligible costs over 180 days. Since January 7, California has experienced severe wildfires, costing over $10 billion for Los Angeles’ recovery. The fires claimed at least 24 lives, destroyed thousands of homes, and forced over 150,000 evacuations. Extreme weather conditions are forecasted to worsen and potentially fuel the flames further.
