Aarhus plans harbor review after expansion halt

An external investigation has been ordered by Aarhus Municipality following the Danish Town and Country Planning Board of Appeal’s halt of Aarhus Harbor’s 43-hectare expansion. Rådmand Nicolaj Bang admitted to lapses in the management of the project by the Technical and Environmental Administration and opted for external oversight. The contentious expansion had sparked environmental and local concerns since 2018. Objecting parties, including environmentalists, mussel farmers, and political groups, successfully challenged the plan. The council aims to restore trust in their advisory system and examine internal decision-making processes. Mayor Jacob Bundsgaard acknowledged formal mistakes in the protocol but the city remains committed to eventually expanding the harbor.
