Denmark’s social semocrats aim to ban social media under 15

Denmark’s Social Democratic party has proposed in an EU initiative to ban social media usage for children under the age of 15. The initiative by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and EU candidate Christel Schaldemose focuses on protecting vulnerable children from harmful content and addictive design like autoplay and infinite scroll. The proposal also includes forbidding targeted advertising to minors under 18. Schaldemose, crucial in forging the EU Digital Services Act, sees a need for further tech company regulation due to rising concerns in Europe. The implementation could happen within three years after gaining support, with Schaldemose stressing the urgency and prioritization of these measures by the Social Democrats.
