New deal allows more coastal constructions
Denmark’s government, alongside The Conservatives, the Danish People’s Party, and partly the Liberal Alliance, agreed to amend the planning law, enabling 2,500 new summer house plots in coastal zones. The minister highlighted that this change removes restrictive rules that block local development while respecting nature and biodiversity. The goal is to boost growth in rural areas, giving communities more control over their coastal development. The construction of new summer houses will not require the reversion of undeveloped plots to land zones, but must be balanced with new natural areas to maintain biodiversity. The agreement also facilitates more tourist project constructions by the sea and the building of shops within the coastal protection line in order to strengthen town-port connections. Liberal Alliance only agrees on parts dealing with climate adaptation. Excluded from negotiations, the Danish Democrats criticized the agreement as being superficial.
