Minister rebukes prayer rooms in education
Danish immigration and integration minister, Kaare Dybvad Bek, criticizes the practice of having prayer rooms in educational institutions, viewing it as a step backwards for freedom of choice and as a reinforcement of outdated culture not reflective of modern Denmark. The comments are a response to proposals recommending the government and parliament to address honor-related violence and social control in minority environments, including one that suggests banning prayer rooms at educational institutions. Bek believes such religious accommodations do not increase access to education for those from religious homes and move away from the concept of free choice, also implying that it does not facilitate better integration, as observed in countries like France and Sweden.
