Mona Juul becomes Conservative’s new leader

Mona Juul is named the new political leader of the Conservative People’s Party with plans for her to also become chairperson at an extraordinary national council, the date of which is pending. After serving as a Member of Parliament since 2019, Juul takes over leadership following the sudden death of Søren Pape Poulsen who suffered a brain hemorrhage on March 2nd. Juul, who said she had no prior chairmanship ambitions, asserts the necessity for a new party leader and expresses pride in her new role. The party’s executive committee and main board endorse Juul as the new chairperson while Michael Ziegler remains as acting chair. Juul’s first significant challenge is the upcoming EU Parliament election on June 9, in which the conservatives aim to retain their seat.
