LA group chairman won’t run in next election

Ole Birk Olesen, the group chairman of Liberal Alliance, will not seek re-election at the next municipal elections in Copenhagen. He announced his decision in a social media post, clarifying that he ran in 2021 to ensure the representation of Liberal Alliance in the capital’s municipal government during a period of low public support. Olesen, who has been a part of the Danish Parliament since 2011 and served as the Minister for Transport, Buildings, and Housing from 2016 to 2019, plans to focus on his parliamentary work after his term ends on December 31, 2025. He drew 3,695 personal votes in the 2021 municipal election, contributing to his party securing one seat. Liberal Alliance will choose a new lead candidate for the upcoming municipal election in Copenhagen this fall, with Alexander Ryle, currently his substitute in the city council and a Folketing member, set to run.
