Langebro renovation to cost millions
Copenhagen faces an expensive renovation for Langebro’s worn closing mechanism, more extensive than expected, reports TV 2 Kosmopol. The first phase, sealing the bridge from water, cost 42.9 million kroner. New findings show critical damage to the counterweights, crucial for the bridge’s balance and operation. The upcoming renovation stages are projected to cost 258 million kroner, with final completion by 2025, and analysis and design work estimated at 38 million kroner. The actual repairs, commencing in 2027, could range from 315 to 415 million kroner, totaling around 700 million for the renovation. Nonetheless, area chief Henriette Hall-Andersen suggests that renovation is preferable over building a new bridge, which would cost 1.5 billion kroner and disrupt traffic severely. The bridge is a key infrastructure piece, with 50,000 vehicles crossing daily.
