Commission proposes models for dissolving regions

The Danish Health Structure Commission suggests three models for the future organization of the healthcare sector, with two models proposing the dissolution of current regions. One envisages 8-10 health and care regions, while the other centralizes governance. The third retains regions but modifies their structure, increasing municipal health responsibilities. The commission presented these recommendations at Holbæk Hospital, chaired by Jesper Fisker of the Danish Cancer Society. The proposals aim to enhance Denmark’s healthcare system and will inform the government’s upcoming health reform. Other recommendations include expanding the supply of GPs and clinics, improving access to health services, creating a national health plan for resource distribution, and integrating psychiatry into the hospital system. Government parties have differing views on the future of regions. The commission consisted of nine members with healthcare expertise.
