Man charged with assaulting Danish PM
A 39-year-old Polish man has been charged with assaulting Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen at Kultorvet square. The incident occurred in the late afternoon as Frederiksen was en route to a coffee date with a friend and was allegedly hit by a fist on her right shoulder. He faces charges related to assaulting an official on duty, under section § 119 of the criminal code, and denies guilt. The court has scheduled hearings for August 6 and 7. If convicted, deportation from Denmark and an entry ban are expected. The Prime Minister recounted in her police statement that the man spoke unintelligibly before striking her. Since June 8, the accused has been in custody to prevent evasion of the upcoming trial.
