Govt plans to cut 1,000+ jobs in state admin
Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen has announced the Danish government’s intention to cut over 1,000 full-time jobs from the state administration starting in 2025, with more reductions in subsequent years. The cuts are part of an effort to reduce state bureaucracy and are in line with the government’s own demands for efficiency in municipalities and regions. An initial saving of DKK 400 million has been decided, although the detailed financial impact is still unknown. Wammen emphasized that the aim is not to increase workload for remaining staff but to reduce the number of tasks overall, prioritizing funds for key welfare services. Specific tasks to be elided have not been identified yet. The Djøf union stresses that task removal must accompany job cuts to avoid overburdening employees. Meanwhile, Danish Industry reacts positively, noting the necessity for such reforms after an increase in public administration jobs since 2016.
