False Wegovy and Ozempic action

The Danish Medicines Agency has reported 26 Danish-language websites to the police for selling medicines illegally, the Danish Medicines Agency (DMA) wrote in a press release on Tuesday. The majority of dealers sell potency drugs. At the same time, websites have been found where illegal sales of weight loss drugs and diabetes drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic take place, the DMA says. The two preparations, both made by Novo Nordisk, have quickly gained popularity. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to the DMA that illegal sales of prescription medicines take place. “Unfortunately, due to the high demand and media attention, we had expected an increased illegal supply of the semaglutide preparations Ozempic and Wegovy,” says Jeanne Majland, Head of Unit at the Danish Medicines Agency. The complaints were made as part of a global action led by the international police cooperation Interpol. The action took place between 3 and 10 October. Worldwide, over 1300 websites have been closed and 72 people have been arrested. /ritzau/
