Major US carmaker halts shipments to China
American car manufacturer General Motors announced it will stop shipping vehicles from the US to China, according to an anonymous company spokesperson. The decision follows significant changes in economic conditions, leading GM to restructure Durant Guild and optimize its operations in China. Durant Guild is a lifestyle platform by GM. This move coincides with a 90-day pause on newly imposed high tariffs between China and the USA. US President Donald Trump introduced a 10% basic tariff on most countries, with higher retaliatory tariffs on others. China and the US ended in a trade war, with tariffs reaching 125% on American goods and 145% on Chinese goods. Negotiations seek to establish more permanent rates. GM’s competitor Ford ceased its exports to China in April. GM follows post-3rd April tariffs on US car manufacturers.
