More Ukrainians seeking refuge in Denmark

In the first seven weeks of the year, 1,400 Ukrainians received residency in Denmark under a special law, up from 859 in the same period of 2024, amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine. A total of 52,139 Ukrainians have been granted such residency since the conflict’s start, with about 35,000 currently residing in Denmark. Municipalities, like Vejle, are preparing for an influx, facing housing challenges demonstrated by Copenhagen’s hotel rentals, Gentofte’s expanded pavilions, and Viborg’s use of a hostel. The situation strains both recent arrivals and early refugees, as prolonged uncertainty affects their families. Immigration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek underscores Denmark’s support for Ukraine and the significant efforts of Danish municipalities in accommodating refugees.
