PM Frederiksen Calls Election Setback ‘Really Annoying’

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described The Social Democratic Party’s decline in the European Parliament election as ‘really annoying’, noting on Instagram that although they retained their three seats, their vote percentage decreased significantly. The party received 15.6 percent of the votes, almost six points less than in 2019. Frederiksen did not attend the election party due to being assaulted on Friday by a man who a doctor described as mentally unstable. A 39-year-old Polish man who does not speak Danish is charged with the assault after hitting Frederiksen with a fist. Lead candidate Christel Schaldemose acknowledged the defeat at the event. Frederiksen also pointed out that despite the right-wing’s growth in Europe, most Danish EU parliamentarians support EU cooperation.
