Finance Committee guarantees landslide funding
Parliament is allocating DKK 205 million to avert the environmental consequences of landslides at Nordic Waste in Randers, Jutland where the company works to clean contaminated soil, according to DR, which is in possession of a confidential memo that was voted through in the Finance Committee on Tuesday. At the same time, the Environmental Protection Agency has sent orders for consultation to Nordic Waste, which is expected to take “necessary measures” to avoid environmental damage in connection with the landslide and provide financial security. According to DR, the money from the Danish Parliament should be sufficient if the company does not provide financial security. The funding can therefore be seen as a guarantee. Randers Municipality has been working since mid-December to get the landslide under control. /ritzau/
