Europe’s largest nuclear reactor – Olkiluoto 3 in Finland – was shut down automatically on Sunday due to a technical problem. It is expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday. This is according to the Finnish company in charge of operations, TVO. The cause was an error in temperature measurement and, according to the company, had “no impact on nuclear safety”. “The Olkiluoto 3 unit was in normal operation when a fault in the turbine plant automatically stopped the plant’s electrical production. The system worked as intended during the failure,” TVO said in a statement on Monday. “The cause of the error was a failure of a temperature measurement in the generator’s cooling system,” it said. It is expected to be operational again on Tuesday at 11 am Danish time or at noon Finnish time. /ritzau/AFP/
