First tranche of allocations for the military

On Thursday evening, parties behind the defence agreement reached the first partial funding agreement. The agreement was presented by Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen and the parties’ defence spokesmen at the Defence Ministry. In total, the partial agreement earmarks approximately DKK 16 billion out of the total framework of the defence agreement up to 2033 of DKK 155 billion, according to the text of the agreement. “We are starting to invest in the many things that are needed in the Danish Defence. These are investments in current military capabilities, for example the acquisition of drones,” said Troels Lund Poulsen.
“It is also a retention and recruitment package, so we can ensure that our employees want to be part of the Armed Forces in the future.” More than half of the DKK 16 billion goes to military capabilities. These include, for example, the acquisition of short-range air defence equipment for the army, as well as close-air defence missiles for the Navy’s ships. It also involves the purchase of long-range drones that can, among other things, monitor the Arctic and North Atlantic. /ritzau/
