Foreign Minister Løkke Rasmussen signs U.S. agreement

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen signed a defence cooperation agreement with the United States on Thursday evening, which was presented Tuesday at a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington D.C. “The agreement means that the Americans have the opportunity to build certain capabilities in Denmark, which – if things get worse – will reduce the response time, and it will send a deterrent signal to those who threaten our security,” Løkke Rasmussen said. The defence agreement also includes the United States being able to military personnel at the air bases in Karup, Skrydstrup and Aalborg.
The agreement between Denmark and the United States, which is irrevocable for the first ten years, has been negotiated for a year and a half. However, it will only enter into force once both countries have “completed their respective national implementation processes”. /ritzau/
