Four municipalities head the GDP table

Four municipalities on Zealand accounted for two-thirds of the total increase in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, according to the analysis magazine Momentum, published by Kommunernes Landsforening (KL). The four are the municipalities of Kalundborg, Gladsaxe, Hillerød and Ballerup that pulled the bulk of the load behind the overall increase in GDP. The increase is due to large investments made by the pharmaceutical industry in the four municipalities, says Head of Analysis Søren Aagesen. “The four municipalities with the highest growth in 2022 are characterised by the fact that they house some of Novo Nordisk’s production facilities. When you have a company that is so successful worldwide, it is of course also reflected in the statement,” he tells the magazine.
At the very top of the list is Kalundborg Municipality, where production increased by 26.9 percent in 2022. Novo Nordisk has invested heavily in the production facility in Kalundborg. In November last year, the pharmaceutical company announced an additional investment of 42 billion by 2029. After Kalundborg comes Gladsaxe, which houses Novo Nordisk’s headquarters in Bagsværd. Here, GDP growth landed at 26.4 percent. Number three and four on the list are Hillerød and Ballerup municipalities, where GDP increased by 18.3 and 17 percent. /ritzau/
