Storm Ciarán hit northern France overnight Thursday with winds of almost 200 kilometres per hour. A truck driver died and around 1.2 million homes are without electricity. “The gusts are unusual in Brittany and many records have been broken,” the national weather service Meteo-France said on X,. The man killed in the storm was hit by a falling tree while sitting in his truck, according to AFP. Three French departments were put on red storm alert at midnight on Wednesday, the highest level in France. /ritzau/
