French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has resigned. France’s presidential office said on Monday, according to AFP. In a statement, President Emmanuel Macron said he had accepted the prime minister’s resignation. On X, he thanked Borne for her work “in the service of the nation” and wrote that it has been “exemplary every single day”. Borne has been prime minister for less than two years, in which time he has been through at least 18 votes of no confidence in the French parliament. For example, in September, a vote of no confidence was held after Borne forced through a new budget bill without parliamentary approval. Borne became prime minister in May 2022. Her departure comes at a time when President Macron is preparing for a major cabinet reshuffle. /ritzau/
