France has a new Prime Minister. President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday appointed Education Minister Gabriel Attal to replace Elisabeth Borne in the post. The 34-year-old Attal becomes the youngest prime minister in French history and the first to be openly gay. Borne resigned on Monday. Macron was therefore expected to appoint a replacement on Tuesday. Borne has been prime minister for less than two years and had been through at least 18 no-confidence votes in parliament. In the French political system, the president sets the political line of the government. The Prime Minister is responsible for the day-to-day management of the government. /ritzau/
