The Palestinian Red Crescent says six have died in an Israeli airstrike on an ambulance in the central Gaza city of Deir al Balah. Those reported to have been killed were four of the aid organisation’s doctors and two others who were inside the vehicle.
Secretary-General of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Jagan Chapagain, wrote on social media X that “this is unacceptable. I condemn the attack in the strongest terms. Protecting patients and healthcare workers is not up for discussion. They must never become a target.”
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said several people had been killed in an Israeli attack near a hospital in Deir al-Balah. 23,350 people have been killed in Gaza so far, according to the Ministry. Since October 7, more than 120 ambulances have been destroyed and at least 326 health workers have been killed, the ministry says. /ritzau/AFP/
