Gaza: EU calls for immediate pauses
The 27 EU countries are calling for “immediate pauses” in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said. The announcement came ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday in Brussels. “All 27 EU countries are united in calling for immediate pauses and the establishment of humanitarian corridors. It must be immediate to address the serious situation of the people of Gaza,” Josep Borrell said ahead of the meeting. Ireland would like the EU to go a step further by calling for a ‘ceasefire’. However, several EU countries are opposed to this because it would limit Israel’s ability to defeat Hamas. /ritzau/
