Gaza – hostage/prisoner exchange
Israeli prison authorities said 33 Palestinian prisoners had been released overnight on Tuesday. According to the dpa news agency, these are women and teenagers from different prisons. The youngest teenager was reportedly 14 years old. Earlier on Monday, the parties confirmed that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, of which the exchange of hostages and prisoners is a part, has been extended by two days. According to the Reuters news agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has said that 50 female Palestinian prisoners will be added to the list of people who will be released if additional Israeli hostages are released.
The Israeli government has received a list of hostages held captive by Hamas, who are expected to be released on Tuesday. The Israeli military radio station reported this, citing the Prime Minister’s office. Axios reported that the list includes the names of ten hostages. According to Reuters, the prime minister’s office has not commented on the reports. The Red Cross Monday evening was handed over 11 hostages from Hamas who arrived in Israel from the Gaza Strip on Monday evening. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said they were three French nationals, two Germans and six Argentines. Many Israelis have dual citizenship./ritzau/
