German authorities on Wednesday morning completed the search for the last four sailors who were reported missing after two cargo ships collided in the North Sea, according to a spokesman for the Accident Command in Cuxhaven, according to dpa. The four sailors are presumed dead, the spokesman said in a new statement Wednesday afternoon. One of the cargo ships, the British-flagged, 91-metre-long “Verity”, sank after the collision on Tuesday morning. It was on Tuesday morning, around 05:00, that the ship collided with the 190-metre-long Bahamas-flagged bulk carrier “Polesie”. The German sea rescue service managed to find and rescue two sailors from the “Verity” out of the sea, while a third was found dead in the water. The cause of the collision remains unclear. /ritzau/
