A 15-year- old student at a school in southwestern Germany was shot and later died in hospital Thursday in the city of Offenburg some 100 km southwest of Stuttgart. Around noon, police arrested the alleged perpetrator, who is in his teens. The injured person was initially treated by emergency services. The preliminary assessment by the police is that the suspect acted alone and that the two had “personal differences”, according to Bild.
The episode on Thursday came a day after a similar incident in the northern German city of Hamburg. Several students were evacuated from a school on Wednesday as a result of a threat, and a major police operation subsequently began. Four children, aged 12 to 14, were subsequently detained for threatening teachers, and police reported seizing two toy weapons. There were no reports of any casualties. /ritzau/DPA/
