German police have arrested three more people suspected of involvement in a plot to commit an Islamic attack on Cologne Cathedral on New Year’s Eve. According to police, they planned to use a car in the attack on the 800-year-old cathedral. On New Year’s Eve, 1,000 policemen were deployed in the area around the cathedral. On December 24, police arrested a 30-year-old man who police said was from Tajikistan. He was suspected of plotting to attack the church and was remanded in custody until January 7. Frank Wissbaum, police chief in Cologne, said on New Year’s Eve that the details of the alleged assassination attempt were not clear. /ritzau/AFP/
