New figures from the German Statistical Office showed on Thursday that consumer prices in 2023 rose 5.9 percent – the second highest annual inflation rate since German reunification, according to dpa. Inflation rose from 3.2 percent in November to 3.7 percent in December. The latest month of inflation recovery in Germany was in June 2023. Chief Economist at the Danish Chamber of Commerce Tore Stamer says that the slightly higher inflation in December should not be seen as a sign that we are now entering a new period of rising inflation in Germany. “The rise in inflation in December is, by all accounts, a one-off,” he says. /ritzau/
