Govt to keep unemployment benefit rate

The government will maintain increased unemployment benefits so that certain unemployed people can upgrade their skills in the industries that lack labour, the Ministry of Employment writes in a press release. The move will be part of the government’s budget bill for 2024, which will be presented later this week. “We need more skilled workers so that we can meet our ambitious goals for our welfare society and the green transition,” says Minister for Employment Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen. “That’s why it’s good that we’re making this scheme permanent. I am convinced that it will contribute to more unemployed people taking a skilled education,” she says. The government will allocate approximately DKK 230 million in 2024 and approximately DKK 300 million annually in the coming years. /ritzau/
