Govt. to stop mini-tenders

The government is to stop a new mini-tender round for gas and oil extraction in the Elly-Luke field in the North Sea, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard wrote on X. The development comes after the oil company Bluenord has withdrawn its unsolicited application for exploration and extraction in the field. The Danish Energy Agency announced the move shortly before the minister’s announcement. “The government recommends that we stop the mini-round on Elly-Luke as Bluenord has withdrawn its application. As stated in the North Sea Agreement, it will be discussed with the agreement group – I will do so tomorrow (Ed: Tuesday),” Lars Aagaard wrote on X.
The new tender round for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea has attracted criticism from both opposition parties and green organisations. In particular, the criticism has been that with the new tender, Denmark would risk its reputation as a green model. Especially in light of the fact that Denmark is a co-founder of the international alliance Boga, where countries dedicate themselves to stopping new projects to find oil and gas. /ritzau/
