Govt. wants to allow virtual exchange educations

In the future, the country’s students will be able to take an exchange abroad in whole or in part without having to leave Denmark. Virtual exchange should be possible, the government is proposing. The Ministry of Higher Education and Science says in the draft law, which is currently in the consultation process: “Digital development and the periods of corona restrictions have led to an increasing interest in other forms of exchange, including with virtual elements, as an alternative or supplement to traditional, physical student exchange.
The bill will be introduced in November and is due to enter into force on 1 January 2024. At the Danish Students Council, chairperson Esben Bjørn Salmonsen is in principle pleased with the change, because it makes it easier to get more students to go on exchange courses. But he also sees pitfalls. “It is important that the virtual exchange does not become a substitute for the physical exchange. Because exchange is much more than the professional,” he says. /ritzau/
