Greek firefighters have found 18 people dead in an area marked by fierce forest fires for days, according to the Associated Press Tuesday. Greek police are attempting to identify the dead. The bodies were found near a hut in the Avanta area of the northeastern Alexandroupolis region, said Fire Department Spokesman Ioannis Artopios. There have been no reports of missing persons. Therefore, it is suspected that these may be migrants who have crossed the border from Turkey. Hundreds of firefighters tried Tuesday to gain control of large forest fires that have raged for days in northeastern Greece. /ritzau/
