More than 10,000 people have been displaced from their homes by criminal gangs in Haiti’s central province, migration authorities in the country said. The police lack manpower and resources and constantly fall short in the face of powerful and well-armed criminals who are gaining increasingly more territory and privileges. In addition, the gangs have formed strong alliances – not least in the capital, Port-au-Prince. According to the UN, more than 2,400 people have been killed in this year’s wave of violence so far. At the same time, there have been at least 350 regular lynchings this year. An estimated 5.2 million Haitians are in need of humanitarian aid./ritzau/AFP/
