Hans Island battle with Canada over
50 years of disagreement between Denmark, Greenland and Canada over the uninhabited Hans Island is now finally over after all parties in the Danish Parliament on Tuesday approved a June 2022 agreement between Denmark, Greenland and Canada on the division of the rocky island in the Labrador Sea. Hans Island divides Greenland and Canada. The agreement means that the Kingdom of Denmark has been officially expanded with a new maritime area corresponding to the area of Jutland, Funen and Zealand combined. Hans Island is a barren island of about 1.3 square kilometres between Canada and Greenland and has had symbolic significance for both. Officially, the island is named after a Greenlandic hunter and expedition participant. /ritzau
