Hash buyers and sellers facing higher punishments
Copenhagen Police are establishing a targeted enhanced penalty zone in and around Christiania in the capital, according by the police district in a press release. The measure means, among other things, that harsher sentences can be imposed for those convicted of buying or selling illegal drugs. The zone covers the whole of Christiania and parts of the surrounding area. “We see the stricter penalty zone as an effective tool in the effort against the obvious and systematic cannabis trade in, among other places, Pusher Street,” says Copenhagen Police Director Anne Tønnes. “We’re going to target both sellers and buyers, and they can look forward to significantly harsher penalties if they’re caught with illegal drugs,” she said. According to the police, the stricter penalties are the result of new legislation that came into force at the turn of the year. /ritzau/
