Indian opposition politician Rahul Gandhi has been reinstated in the Indian Parliament after his defamation conviction was suspended, according to Reuters. Rahul Gandhi was “disqualified from his membership of the Lok Sabha”, the Parliament wrote on March 24 in a statement. The Lok Sabha is India’s lower house of Parliament. Shortly before, he had been found guilty of defamation after he asked during the 2019 election campaign why “all thieves have Modi as a common surname”. The comment was perceived as an attack on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An Indian court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison. Last week, India’s Supreme Court suspended the verdict. /ritzau/
