India has asked Canada to pull out a number of diplomats, sources with knowledge of the matter told the Financial Times, Reuters reported. According to the media, this involves 41 Canadian diplomats. They must leave no later than October 10, the Financial Times wrote. Relations between the two countries are strained over alleged Indian involvement in a killing in Canada in June. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed in September that India was involved in the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which took place on Canadian soil in June. Before his death, Nijjar was branded by India as a “terrorist”. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot outside a Sikh temple in the Canadian state of British Columbia on June 18 this year. India has denied all accusations of interference and called the Canadian reports absurd. /ritzau/
