A smog that you almost have to use a kukri to cut through, has forced the Indian metropolis of New Delhi to restrict car traffic in the hope of limiting harmful air pollution. From November 13 to 20, cars with registration numbers ending in odd numbers are only allowed to drive on odd dates – and likewise for even numbers. In addition, primary schools have been closed. On Monday, air quality in the Indian capital was characterized as “bad” by authorities – for the third day in a row. The concern is that the smog will grow even thicker when Hindus celebrate Diwali on November 12, when lots of fireworks are typically set off.
