A seven-day ceasefire was broken when, according to Israel’s military, Hamas launched rockets at Israeli targets on Friday morning without doing much damage. Israel responded by resuming bombardments in Gaza. Neither Israel nor Hamas had an interest in continuing the exchange of hostages as part of an extended ceasefire — albeit for very different reasons.
