Internal battle to keep NB party going

Party founder Pernille Vermund announced on Wednesday that she has recommended dissolving the right-wing NB party, but she may find it too early to write the party’s obituary. Before that can happen, it requires two extraordinary AGMs, where two-thirds of the voters vote to dissolve the party, the party told DR. And there are potentially more suitors to carry the party on. Nis Otto Kristensen, the local chairman in Copenhagen, now says he will attempt to keep the party alive, as will Councillor Githa Nelander. Former Danish People’s Party profile Martin Henriksen is also considering his position, according to the Danish media.
“We can continue the party to challenge the established parties. We still have our old project, and we may need to adjust some things, but we will continue from there,” says Nis Otto Kristensen. According to political commentator Hans Engell, it is not surprising that attempts are being made to take the party forward. However, he does not see it having much impact. “There are indications that chaos will continue,” he told Ritzau, pointing out that a number of formal issues need to be put in place: “But it is difficult to see the NB party continuing with founder Pernille Vermund having left the party, and that the executive committee has agreed to abolish the party,” Engell said. /ritzau/
